Storage Is Natural

Storage is a booming industry in our nation. Maybe it is because we are consumeristic and materialistic. Or it could be that we as a people got tired of having to look at the extra stuff we do not have room for and decided we needed to move it out of our homes. If we think about it, however, storage is not something man created. We can look to our animal counterparts for inspring the industry.

I was in Lombard Illinois and was inspired by a Squriel.  Thats right Lombard Illinois had a squirel that made me think!  It is probably the most classic animal known to use storage. While food is in season for them, we can see them scamper across electrical lines and tree tops gathering their foodstuffs: acorns. Sometimes they eat on the go, but most of the time they actually store their prized treasure by burrying them in the ground. How secure is that? Any number of rogue squirrels or birds can come in behind our unsuspecting squirrel and raid him of all his hard work. Not only is security a problem but so is loss of property for other reasons. Our squirrel knows that there is a possibility that his stockpile can be found, so his answer is to have several stockpiles. But he can have so many that he loses track where some of them are. Here we have loss to due forgetfullness and loss due to the germination of acorns. If left alone "burried" for too long, acorns tend to become trees.

Now if our squirrel would have just stored his acorns in a storage unit, he wouldn't have to worry about any kind of loss. Security on site ensures no one gets his cache of nuts. Having it in one location means he will not forget where he put it. It just goes to show that nature can inspire humans, but humans perfect the concept.

I wonder how much moving around a squirrel does while collecting his winter acorns.

Maybe you have been around too much self storage lately if a squirrel makes you think about storage units ...

That squirrel may want a climate controlled storage unit....

I am sure glad that we have self storage otherwise all our stuff would end up in the landfill.  That would be bad.
