We answer many calls and from time to time we come across someone who is in need of storage but cannot afford to pay for it on their own at the time they need the space. These are difficult situations because they are heartfelt and it can happen to anyone at any given time. Situations like these can include one who is being evicted from their home and the landlord would rather spend the move in costs for a storage unit for one month rather than put all of the tenants belongings onto the street curb.

In the self storage industry comes across many odd tenants and stories that they have to deal with each and every year. You would think that self storage is just a place where someone could store their goods while they are in the process of moving, or for a business that needs extra space to store their overload of files that they have to hold on to for the next seven years in case they need to refer back to the logs.

However, not only is it used for your basic self storage needs but other oddities occur that real estate management has to deal with. These circumstances although unpredictable, must still be dealt with.

There was once an auction that was held by real estate management at a storage property because the tenant could not keep up with their monthly storage fees. The storage facility had to put the unit up for auction as they normally do when someone defaults in their rent. The unit in turn was sold to the highest bidder.

When the person who purchased the unit, was able to go through the items of the space, they opened up a barbecue grill that had something wrapped in aluminum foil. The purchaser thought it was a piece of wood, but instead it turned out to be a real life human leg.

When real estate management reported this to the police, it turned out that the previous owner of the storage unit had his leg amputated for medical reasons and wanted to save his leg as a souvenir. The rightful owner of the leg was reunited with his leg after a full investigation was conducted. Unbelievable, but true.

Gretta was a friendly five year old. Her favorite color was pink and her best dress was actually three separate outfits put together,pink leggings from one outfit, a long, white velveteen poet shirt with sleeves that that looked like pretty bells, and a denim vest for effect. She wore her hair in pig tails because that way she could use more hair bands than if she just had a pony tail. Her body was always adorned with at least seven pieces of jewelry, and today she was wearing a mood ring, three necklaces, and five bracelets.

Gretta was happy because today was the day that she and her family were going to a reunion, where she would get to play with all of her cousins, even cousins that she had never met. She couldnt imagine that there were other kids in her family that she didnt even know, and she was anxious to get there and meet them. What was even more exciting was that Gretta was going to get to travel there in her Grandparents RV, which she absolutely adored.

She jumped out of the car as soon as Dad turned off the engine once they were in the parking lot of the local RV storage where Gram and Gramps kept their moving house, as Gretta liked to call it. Her favorite part of the coach was the big TV and the tiny nooks and crannies that she could hide in. If she was very lucky, she got to be the copilot and sit up front. That was always fun.

The man with the big nose who worked at the local RV storage came over and began talking to Gramps. He turned and winked at Gretta, but she got shy and hid behind her Dad. The man laughed and then he did something really crazy. He pulled a lollipop out from behind Dads ear, giving it to Gretta as a treat. Gretta knew it was some kind of magic trick, but she sure couldnt figure out how to do it, though she vowed to try it on her stuffed animals. Within an hour, they were on the road, with a sticky copilot who was covered in lollipop.

I am always surprised by the diversity of the self storage community . Many of my coworkers have travelled all over the world, even lived in different countries. Perhaps I have lived in Missouri for a bit too long, because living in a foreign country is still one of my romanticized dreams.
 
I do not mean to say, of course, that I have not done my own fair bit of travelling. I have blessed, so to speak, with the ability to travel throughout college, though I did miss out on a semester abroad. I have had the opportunity to visit my friends in New York, California, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Florida, and I only see more travelling ahead of me.
 
One of my coworkers lived in Sweden for several years with her husband. Though I know that it is expensive, there, I have always wanted to visit Sweden. So, too, have I wanted to visit Germany and France. Spain would also be nice, especially for the language emersion.
 
It makes sense that I enjoy travelling as much as I do because my parents are not very much inclined to vacation. As a child, I did not get to see too many different places. We went on family vacations and they were a ton of fun, though they were usually in the same place. Now, I have an itch to see as much of the world as I can.
 
It is great to know that I work in a self storage community that fosters diversity. It is always interesting to strike up a conversation with one of my coworkers and figure out where they have been.

I for one can not say that I have ever seen a local yacht storage facility. I have often wondered what one would look like and why would people want to use this kind of facility to store their yachts. Well I can answer my own question regarding why people would want to use local yacht storage to store their yachts. Where else are they going to put their luxury suites on water?

If I had to guess, I would think that the facility would be massive. To me it would have to be. In order to house more than one, two or potentially thirty plus yachts, it would have to be a large facility. Now of course it would need access to both land and the water, for the two ways that people would bring their yachts by. I see people rolling up in their big trucks or sports utility vehicles pulling their large boats to the door in order to store them for the winter or for a while. Naturally I would expect that there would a number of people that could help the individual get the boat in the water in order to store it. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe they do not store the yachts in the water. Maybe it might hurt or decay them. Maybe they would put on trailers and put them in parking spots like trucks and RVs.

I wonder about things like this, because I like to know how things work. Do I own a yacht? No I do not, but I do not understand how the storage of them work thus I am interest.

My nephew is so excited for his sixteenth birthday that he can hardly contain himself. It is just over 7 months away but that dream car is on his mind everyday until then. He has been begging my brother for a car everyday. They of course keep telling him that it is awhile until he can get his license to even drive the car. That does not stop him. Whenever we pass a dealership his eyes are wide open scanning the lot looking for the perfect one.
 
I asked my brother what his plans were exactly for this situation. Was he really going to buy him a brand new car for his birthday? We never got new cars growing up we had the embarrassing ones that frequently back fired and would not start. That built character and taught us to be appreciative, was what dad would always say.
 
My brother informed that he was under no circumstances giving a sixteen year old boy a brand new car but that a fellow co-worker was selling his three year old grand am that was in perfect condition for a really good price and that he had already purchased it for my nephew. I had never seen this vehicle anywhere and asked where in the world it was. He said that the local car storage place in town was the perfect place to keep the present. He put it in a climate controlled unit so it would be in tip top shape and he went every other week to start it up so the car would keep running smoothly. The local car storage was so helpful and convenient to keep the car in until we gave it to my nephew. You should have seen his face. That will be a birthday to remember for years to come.
