I had a call one time where this guy called and said he needed outdoor storage for a bout a month and the call was going great got all of my five agreements the flow was awasome and then we started talking about the size and I asked him what he thought he would be storing and he paused and said about 70 pound of body cream i did not have anything to say so I contiuned on my little script because i did not want to get off track and we got to the end of the call and he said he wanted to see the unit before he came in so I asked him when he thought he would be able to come in and all of a sudden he asked if he could park his dragon in our parking lot because he was going to be in a play and wanted to ride the huge paper dragon over to the store and if it was ok to have wizard partys in the space and I think there was a long slience just because I did not know what to say and I was trying to not laughf because he sounded serious but no one would want storage for that but I thought it was funny and I think every one here has had there fair share of prank calls and lord knows I have done my fair shere of them myself.

The weather is getting cooler and fall is almost here.  This is the time of year when everybody starts sharing their colds and other germs.  Plus this year there is the added fear of the swine flu.  I have been moving around the office all week with disinfecting wipes in my pocket.

The idea for storage has been passed down through out generations. It wasnt always the lucrative business that it is now. Most people used their attics or basements, until some smart guy decided to build the first storage facility. Of course there wasnt always attics in basements. Often times people just got rid off the things they didnt need, or they would just sell them.  

Whether business or personal or whether it is an internal or external customer the rapport that two people have can make or break a relationship or partnership. If you are accurate with details you are not exempt from a failing relationship. It certainly helps but relationships grow stronger with trust. 

This is true for potential and current storage unit customers alike. People that you get along with well can easily forgive you for mistakes. If you do not have a good rapport then mistakes are difficult to forgive and get past. 

Teamwork is the key to success. There has to be a connection in order to have teamwork. No connect no teamwork no relationship and all bets are off.

It seems I can not talk enough about the great meeting at the Ozarks. One person I kept hearing about over and over is one of our trainers, Julie. I was lucky enough to be in her training class when I started here and she taught me everything I know about storage . Everyone wanted to know if she was in attendance, and praised her for her efforts in meetings in the past.

I really learned alot at the MSSOA convention that I had the good luck to attend. But, one of the best things about the whole trip were the awesome people I had the opportunity to meet and talk to. The world of self storage is full of professionals who truely care about their tenants and how to best serve them.

Sometimes we all experience down time between calls, and boredom is not a friend to any of us. Whomever is putting the magazines in the storage cabinet in the call center deserves a medal. I have started to contribute some of my own as well. It makes a nice little refresher between calls, that way I am more than ready when the next customer rings in.

It only takes a few weeks to learn the basics of mini storage and the best ways to sell it.  But your learning has just begun at this point, since the self storage industry is a constantly changing business. Take the opportunity during slow periods to keep up to date on everything.

Kent Self Storage has one asset that no one else has and that is Kent.  He has been a hands on owner for all of the thirty plus years that he has had this storage facility.  All of his customers, both past and present just love him and all of his fun stories.  Well, most of his stories. 

People often call inquiring about storage rental for someone else.  They call for a friend that is going through a bad domestic situation or a parent that is going into a rehabilitation facility or an old friend that is moving back to town.  But I get annoyed when a mother is calling for her son because he has not gotten up out of bed yet.
