We all have clutter. We all have important items and documents that get mixed in with the clutter from time to time. We all need storage solutions to allow us to organize our important things, separate necessary from trivial, and basically just give us more space to get around. Storage solutions come in all shapes and sizes, from wooden and plastic desk organizers with slots for mail and time sensitive documents to translucent plastic bins that we can use to store seasonal clothing, toys and other miscellaneous articles that we want to keep, though not necessarily right out in the middle of our room. Teaching our kids the value of using various storage solutions instills in them a sens of organization that will serve them well later on. It also lets you off the hook from having to help them find a particular toy or letter from their teacher amongst a pile of stuff that is four feet high. Organization is a learned skill, not an inborn instinct. Learning it sooner rather than later will be easier on children than growing up a messy individual and trying to relearn organizational habits when they are older. Kids learn quickly,.. especially when we set a great, organized and clutter free example without being pushy or demanding.

Are you building a home? Are you remodeling a room? Mobile storage is a great idea for people who need on site storage. Imagine that you are remodeling your living room, and for a while it will be completely in shambles. you have an expensive sofa and love seat set, some costly end tables and of course your entertainment center. It has to go somewhere while the remodeling is taking place, but your garage is dark, cluttered and dirty. Mobile storage is your solution. It can be delivered right away, and right to your location. Place your furniture safely inside until your home improvement job is completed. your furniture never has to leave your property, which avoids the hassle of loading and unloading a truck, potentially damaging your goods. You don't have to worry about scuffing, scratching or denting your expensive tables in transit. you don't have to worry about anything at all, because all of your things are literally either in your driveway or in your yard. no one can get them because they are securely locked up, and when your remodel is done, you just pull them back out again, and enjoy the new look of your living room. Mobile storage goes right where you need it.

Nationwide moving companies are no doubt experiencing a money crunch as a result of the ever increasing cost of fuel that is required to transport a customers belongings from one part of the country to another. This will almost certainly be reflected in the final cost to the consumer for these services. Consumers who are using these companies should be prepared to pay a slight increase in order to cover the rising costs of gasoline for the trucks.

It should come as no surprise, really, as consumers are already feeling the pinch at the pump in their daily lives. Had they chosen to do all of the transporting themselves in vehicles that they either own or chose to rent, the cost would be more for fuel anyway. Relocation is a costly endeavor no matter how one chooses to go about it, and there are often hidden expenses involved, such as the cost of boxes or the cost of extra padding.

It is beneficial to give  yourself a little financial cushion to cover the cost of some of the unexpected expenses that may arise. And by all means,  don't forget to tip your movers...because they worked very hard for you and your family!

If you live in a house that is entirely too full of clutter, such as piles of magazines spilling out all over the coffee table, closets overflowing with too man clothes and stacks of dvds tumbling off of the top of the television, there are many household storage ideas that can be utilized, without spending a lot of money in the process, that will free up space in your home.

Taking advantage of the empty space under beds for seasonal clothing and shoes that are stored inside of short, airtight plastic containers gives you more room in your closet for the clothes that you normally wear. Throw a nice lavender or cedar sachet in there and when you open it up again, you will be greeted by good smelling clothes.

Wicker baskets are great for quickly tidying up a cluttered desk or counter top. Though the same amount of junk may be present, it looks much better, at least, if it is presented in a nice basket. File cabinets keep your office free of documents that tend to pile up on the corner of the desk, and special media storing cabinets and towers will keep all of your computer software safely up and out of the way.

With planning, a small budget can reap big rewards when it comes to cleaning and de-cluttering your home environment.

You may not think that a storage company would be any place where customer service would be important or available. The reason for that could be because the customer rarely sees anyone on their visits, and in fact, they rarely visit at all unless they are loading or unloading something from their unit. But customer service is important in virtually every industry, and this one is no exception.

From the very first phone call or email that a customer places, looking for information on sizes and rates of units, to the signing of the lease, there are plenty of opportunities for the employees of the establishment to present themselves in a helpful and friendly manner. This gives them social credibility, and it gives the customer a positive foundation for the remainder of the relationship, which, in this industry, can be many years.

Customer service is especially important in a business where the first impressions are often the only impressions ever received. Above and beyond the basic introduction and tour of the facilities and aside from signing the finalizing documents, employees of the facility might never have the need to interact with those customers again. Any interaction, therefore, however brief and trivial it may seem, should be positive interaction.

The term warehouse self storage is sometimes used to describe a type of facility that utilizes long rows of identical buildings as rooms or units for storing.

However, the term could also be referring to converted malls, old, closed down grocery stores and other large empty buildings that are seeing an increase being resurrected and used for a new purpose.

It is becoming more popular to convert old, empty and otherwise useless warehouses into units for residential or commercial storing, rather than the other option of completely tearing down the existing structure and starting over again. After all, the foundation is usually secure and strong, and the space is already available.

All that is really needed is some inside remodeling to fulfill the requirements, creating safe and secure inner rooms within the large building. Some such buildings have loading docks and bays which could be a convenient way to allow large trucks access to the inner spaces.

It stands to reason that using existing structures would not only be more cost effective, but also more environmentally friendly. The process of destroying, hauling off the rubble and rebuilding has a far more negative impact than simply restructuring and remodeling the inside and touching up the outside of an existing building.

Living the family life, raising our kids, taking care of our pets, we tend to accumulate a large amount of material possessions, from the clothing and shoes that we wear to the small trinkets given to us on Birthdays and Anniversaries. But what about all of the things left over from our childhood?

Often, we come into our relationships and marriages with our own memories kept alive and secure inside of random boxes. Posters of teen idols or rock stars that graced every square, white inch of our bedroom walls as teenagers and well loved stuffed animals that slept with us on many a cold, cold night, wait out the years in quiet solitude, until they are discovered again with renewed enthusiasm. Though they may be few in number remaining after all of these years, they are still pieces of our lives that we treasure.

Personal storage gives us the opportunity to keep our treasured memories secure, whether they are three years old, or three decades young. The items of our past remain safe and protected, conveniently located, and ready for us to pass along to our own kids when they are grown enough to truly appreciate them, becoming mementos of another sort once we are gone.

When relocating, you have a choice to make when it comes to moving services, and the choice is often made in regards to the amount of money one wants to spend.

When money is not a factor, most would choose a full service option, in which professionals bring a large truck or van to your location, loading all of your belongings into it, and then drive it to your new location, unloading it for you there. This is costly, yet it equates to much less work for you.

The second option requires you to load up all of your own belongings, furniture and all, into specially made 'pods' that are brought to your location. These large, portable boxes are then picked up and delivered to your new location, where you unpack them yourself. It costs less than full service, but there is more work involved for you.

The third option is the do it yourself option. You rent the truck, you load the truck, you drive the truck. Basically, you do it all. The equipment is available for rental, but the work belongs to you. This is by far the most affordable option in regards to money, but the most laborious in regards to your personal effort.

Looking for a place to put some of your old but still treasured items? It is really very easy to find local self storage, and there are a variety of ways to go about exploring all of the offers and benefits that are available.

Perhaps the most hassle free way to begin your search is to go online to one of the many search directories available. You can enter your zip code to find a listing of the nearby facilities in your area, and you can use that list as a reference guide.

Visiting the websites of the nearby facilities will provide you with a general overview of the services that each facility offers, and may even give you pricing options. By comparing the various facilities online, you can narrow down your storage search considerably, down to just two or three facilities.

It is at that point that calling the facility to schedule a tour is a wise idea. Always make sure that you are completely satisfied with the location, the services, the amenities, the cleanliness of the building and grounds and the friendliness of the staff before you commit. There is enough competition out there in the industry to enable you to find exactly what you are looking for.

When you are relocating, whether it is to a new apartment or to a new State, it is important to use high quality, strong and durable moving boxes, along with a strong, sturdy box tape, to insure that your things will be safe during transport.

There is nothing worse than getting halfway to your new bedroom with a large cardboard box full of your personal items, only to have the flimsy, overused bottom blow out on you, sending the contents spilling out onto the floor. Chalk it up as yet another casualty of the move.

Many places that sell high quality
moving boxes will buy back any that you did not use. This way you do not have to worry about not getting enough. You can get more than enough, and sell those that you do not use back for the same price. This is a great convenience.

No need to cram as much as you can into each box hoping that you will have enough room to hold it all. No need to reuse weakened, ripped and tattered boxes that have lost their power to hold. You can throw them in the recycling bin and go for the good stuff without fear of wasting your money.

People can sometimes be intimidated by the task of arranging and organizing the furniture for storing, fearing breakage, or some other type of damage. There is no real trick to furniture storage. It can be likened to putting a puzzle together when you are attempting to maximize space inside of your unit. All it takes is a little foresight and a little more elbow grease, and you can arrange the pieces of your household puzzle safely within the confines of your unit.

It is important, though, to take measures to insure that wood furniture will not become scratched while putting it in or retrieving it from your unit. You can do this by wrapping the legs of tables and wooden chairs in thick padding and securing it with tape, making sure not to put the tape directly on the wood to avoid damage to the finish.  Laying padding across the tops and under securing it well underneath the edges of the tabletop with rope or twine will prevent scratching and nicks from occurring, as well.

You want to be able to get your belongings in and out without causing damage to the other items within the unit. If you have that much stuff to store, you may as well opt for a larger space.

The recent hurricane that blasted and roared its mighty way onto the vulnerable coast of Texas last week has devastated parts of the small island of Galveston. High winds made it as far inland as downtown Houston, causing extreme wind damage and loss of power for millions of residents. Flooding has caused much damage to homes and businesses in the area, as well. Many people have lost their homes, their cars, and all of their personal belongings. Mother nature is unforgiving when it comes to humans and their things.

If you live in an area where flooding is a yearly concern, or where hurricanes can be a possibility, it is important to take this factor into consideration when you are looking for secure storage for your things.  Finding a solidly constructed, well built, concrete and metal facility that is located well above the flood plane could well mean the difference between losing and retaining your things in the event of a very bad storm.

If you see the storm coming, and most meteorologists do see them coming within days of arrival, you can take some of your most important possessions to your facility, up and out of harms way, before evacuating the area. Knowing that you have such a space available year round, and keeping emergency supplies inside of it along with personal items that you cannot afford to lose, can be a part of your disaster plan.

My sixteen year old daughter just got back from Oregon recently on a month long vacation. She is now planning to move to Portland, permanently, and as soon as possible.  In fact, she already has a place to live, with room mates and everything. Now, she is only 16 years old, but she is one of the most stubbornly determined individuals that I know. If anyone can take this dream and make it a reality, she can.

On the one hand, I feel scared and sad, imagining that she will be gone so soon, and knowing that I will be so far away from her. Part of me thinks that there is no way that this can last, and that once she realizes how hard it is to take care of herself she will cave in and come back home. but I know that she will at the very least try it. And when you have no kids, pets or other dependents, it is much easier to take care of just oneself.

She has already begun sorting through the things that she no longer wants, and before I know it I'll be putting things aside in moving boxes, trying to convince her not to sell all of her belongings. I guess if she does make it to Portland to live within the next six months I will have an entire storage room worth of her belongings to hold onto.

My Aunt and Uncle live, or should I say lived, in Galveston.  They moved there a couple of years ago from Florida. Their passion is for sailing, and they do own a sail boat. Before the recent hurricane hit they tied their sail boat as tightly as they could inside of its marina.  The pictures that I have seen on the Internet and on the TV, of dozens of boats piled up on top of each other, leaves little hope that their sail boat is still floating.

I wonder how much better the boats that were housed in specially made boat storage buildings fared than those left to float on a dock?  I guess it is possible that boats that were housed inside of large metal warehouses would have stayed relatively safe. I bet at the last minute all of those boat storage places were flooded with business ( no pun intended)

In the panic that was ensuing before this very powerful storm, no dopubt many people wished that they had chosen enclosed boat storage for their watercraft. My heart goes out to all of the people who have lost their homes and belongings in these most recent storms. For the record, my Aunt and Uncle are fine, staying with their daughter in another state, but they have not been able to go back home to see what is left of their house or their boat.

Today the Roots home school kids went to visit a lovely farm. We met peacocks, emus and llamas. We also met pigs, goats and bunnies. The place was swarming with kittens and cats. They were just everywhere. I saw them under tractors, and lying in the sun. I saw two kittens nursing their mama in the doorway of a large storage shed. I tend to think that the kittens were more popular than the other animals that we met, because of their fuzzy softness and sweet faces.

The owners of the farm also keep bees and we got to learn many very interesting things about beekeeping, and about the habits of bees in general. It was a fascinating glimpse into a little known world. The bees methods of communication are interesting to say the least, and they all have a specific dedicated purpose within the social order. The kids made beeswax candles and ate honey sweetened ice cream at the end of the tour. It was a great ending to a marvelous day.

Car collectors abound in America. Dedicated men and women pour their heart out to restore their mechanical masterpieces, customizing them just so, bringing back the luster and shine of when they were fresh off the assembly line.  In such circumstances it pays to use car storage to keep these beauties out of the sun, wind and rain.

Car storage facilities easily store your prized vehicles, and they also maintain their security and sometimes even keep them in top running condition by offering to drive them once a month, rotate the tires every so often or keep the mechanics operational in other ways.  This keeps the car in good shape instead of just leaving it sitting for long periods.  If a car sits for too long, the inner workings can begin to rust or even decay.  Keeping your collection inside of a specially made car storage place will help save your investment in the long and short run.

There have been so many storms and hurricanes this year that it seems likely that many people have simply boarded up their homes, put all of their furniture into storage and tried to find another part of the country to inhabit. Mother nature has her way of playing all kinds of dirty tricks on us though. Trying to avoid hurricanes on the coast, we may end up getting hit by a tornado in the Midwest.

I suppose that no matter where we live, it is important to be prepared for natural disasters. When we have items in storage units, it is probably best to store very delicate or important items within a fire and water proof container, just in case.  In the end, however, it is really all just material stuff that can be replaced. making sure that our families are secure is the most important endeavor that we can undertake.

I have been around for a while. I have lived in neighborhoods where there were people charging for what was essentially storage space inside of a wooden shed, as well as typical corrugated steel and concrete storage facilities. They both seemed sturdy, and they both had locks provided by the renters.

I have seen high rise storage buildings that resembled loft apartments more so than they did storage facilities. I was amused by this, and also wondered how much trouble it would be to get all of my stuff inside of the high rise unit. Even if they did have an industrial elevator to carry it up ten stories, how am I supposed to get it all the way down the hall? I have never asked but I reckon a forklift might be in order for the job. If I had to carry it myself, I might have to opt for one of the ground level, drive right up to the door and stick it in type storage units, as it would be a lot easier.

Storage has many uses in our country, from old family heirlooms to business documentation and vehicles. No matter your storage need or desire, there are professional and courteous individuals out there who can assist you in finding the right storage at the right price for you.

There are as many different types of storage solutions as there are items that need to be stored. Household storage is needed by tens of thousands of families every year to contain the extra and unused items that are crowding up their homes. Business records need storage, and it needs to be in an area with low humidity so that the papers will not attract mildew, but it also needs to be free of moths that could damage it.

Wine storage must take into account not only the temperature and humidity, but also the immobilization and angle of the bottles and the available light sources, as wine is best stored horizontally in a cool, dark room, undisturbed for long periods of time.

Boat storage is on the rise as more water enthusiasts are purchasing boats for fishing, diving and leisure activities.  Car storage is a must if you are a collector but do not have enough space in your garage to store your prized autos.

And then there is RV storage, which has got to be big and very, very secure. Some of these RV storage companies utilize motion detecting security alarms and other high tech features to insure that nobody tampers with or otherwise bothers the stored recreational vehicles.

It is evident that the storage industry has its hands full when trying to accommodate all of the different needs for storage facilities.

When storing furniture, it is important to keep in mind various factors, such as the age of the furniture. Antique and precious furniture should always be stored in a climate and humidity controlled facility, to preserve the integrity of the wood. It should also be padded, to avoid scratching of the legs and table tops, and covered with dust cloths before closing up the unit.

Furniture storage should also take into account the type of furniture being stored, such as mattresses and box springs. Storage is easiest if you put mattresses and box springs into specially made airtight zippered bags. this keeps insects and mold and mildew from ruining them.  Laying the mattresses and box springs flat could allow moisture to be trapped underneath, so you should always store mattresses and box springs up against a wall, rather than flat.

Using proper padding is imperative to prevent nicks, scratches and dents from occurring.  sometimes the contents of a storage unit can settle, causing unforeseen accidents and damage if the furniture is not properly covered.

Safe storage is entirely possible. It just requires a little bit of foresight and planning. Using bubble wrapping, soft, thick cloths and as much padding as needed will insure that your furniture storage experience does not leave you disappointed.

I know that owning a boat is a pretty expensive hobby. Not only do you have the cost of the boat itself, but you also have to purchase a trailer to tow it with, as well as maintain the mechanical functioning of the water craft. If you are boating through a lake and you hit a snag, or a big piece of wood sticking up, that can cause major damage. That sort of thing comes upon you before you even have a chance to react.

And then, there is boat storage, which, if you do not have a big enough garage, can cost you varying amounts per month or per year. One of the most interesting ways that people store their boat is through facilities that wrap the boats up like a giant sandwich, sealing them in heavy grade plastic. I would actually like to watch that process. i think it would be interesting to see. But that is just the beginning of this unique boat storage method. You see, after the boat has been thoroughly wrapped, it is lifted, via large forklift, up onto specifically designed metal racks, possibly as high as 25 to 30 feet in the air, and hung on the wall like a big bulky plastic picture, or placed inside of a shelf like a big loaf of bread.

Walking into a warehouse full or racks and racks or boats, all wrapped up like big burritos, would be somehing that I have never done.

College students are often strapped for cash. Most of them do not work full time jobs, and their student financial aid may assist with some of their bills, but certainly not all of them. Living in the dorm can be stressful and almost as expensive as renting an apartment.

When summer comes around, the dorms empty out and many college students just throw stuff away because they do not want to have to lug it all around with them all summer. This seems very wasteful, although the neighborhood residents really enjoy going through all of the perfectly usable items such as electronics, shelving, furniture and other things that are in great condition.

It seems like using a storage facility would be a great idea and it would save money in the long run. Putting your things in cheap storage for the summer would keep you from having to waste even more money buying all new things for your dorm room the following year.

We do live in a wasteful society, it seems. Anything that we can do to avoid blatantly wasting and frivolously spending will be in the best interests of all involved. Storage can be very inexpensive, especially smaller units. We are talking just ten to twenty bucks a month for a space that is large enough for you to store small furniture and plenty of boxes

Learning to be frugal when you are in college will take you a long way towards being able to support yourself beyond your education.

There are different methods when it comes to boat storage. Each winter, tens of thousands of boating enthusiasts across the United States have to make the decision about what to do with their boat during the cold, winter off season. Face it, most people do not have the garage space to house their boat. Marina boat storage is very costly, and many recreational boaters simply cannot afford year round marina access.

Many people choose to use the side of their house as a boat storage location, throwing a tarp over their watercraft and hoping for the best. However, raccoons, squirrels and other animals can still get up underneath the tarp looking for warmth and shelter, and the boat is still accessible to would be vandals. Choosing to store your watercraft in a tried and true boat storage facility is probably the best out of all of the storage solutions. True, there is a monthly storage fee involved, but at least you will know that your boat will be stored inside, and out of the elements. Many of these storage facilities use a giant shrink wrapping machine to wrap your boat in plastic, further sealing it for the winter.  While there are some outdoor storage facilities for boats, they usually are covered, at least and the boats are wrapped  or covered with a tarp.

After spending so much money on a boat, people are likely to go the extra mile and be sure that their investment is secured and stored properly for the winter.

There are a ton of car collectors in the United States now. They lovingly restore not only their own oldies but goodies, but they also buy fixer uppers and re-do them to custom proportions and purchase mint condition vehicles for their collections, too. Some of these car collectors may utilize warehouse self storage for their pricey collections, while other collectors may use the services of a bona fide car storage place.

Many of these unique storage solutions not only store your prized vehicles, but they also maintain their security and even their mechanical functioning. Often, these companies will drive the vehicle once a month, per your request, in order to keep the mechanics of the vehicle operational, rather than sitting for long periods. When a car sits for too long, the internal mechanics begin to show signs of decay from non use. These car storage professionals know what it takes to take care of you and your cars, and they go all out when it comes to providing quality service.

Whether your pride and joy is a little, red 1966 corvette, a  sparkling white 1972 Impala or a bright yellow 1975 Fiat, you want to insure that your vehicles remain in peak running condition and that they are not exposed to the elements such as extreme temperatures, rain, wind, hail and snow. Car storage can help.

Moving is a difficult and tiring endeavor, and though most of us do not have to experience it very often, we all, at some point, have to go through the motions of sorting through all of our belongings, buying and taping storage boxes, I moved from Fairfield California when I was younger.  It is difficult to go from Fairfield California to Missouri, but I have made the adjustment.  packing all of our things safely away and then enlisting the help of others to complete the job. Now, it is possible that for the price of a twelve pack of beer we may be able to rally a few well muscled friends together one night and rock out the job of loading and unloading the moving truck.

However, not everyone has friends that might be available for such a task. And if they do know people like that, they may not feel comfortable asking for their help. After all, beer and you Aunt Betty's antique china hutch may not mesh too well.
These people may benefit from calling or going online and obtaining a quote for moving services. While they are more expensive than a twelve pack of beer, moving companies pride themselves on doing professional work, and getting your household items safely from one place to another. They do all of the loading and unloading of the moving truck. All you have to do is pack and unpack the boxes.

You do not have to go very far in this world, no matter what neighborhood you live in even in Hopkins Minnesota  to find local self storage in your area.  I was in Hopkins Minnesota and found a storage mart in minutes!  Just a quick drive around town will uncover many storage facilities that may have always been there, but you just never happened to notice them before. Perhaps they are located behind your favorite restaurant or next to a gas station that you frequent. The other day I saw one that was built into a hill and was only visible from the front. Chances are that an evening drive will enable you to find local self storage that is not only close to home, but is affordable, as well.

For those who do not want to wast the gas to drive around town looking for cheap self storage, there are numerous online directories and search engines that will allow you to surf the Internet for local self storage, no matter what size unit you prefer or what kinds of additional security services that you may need. The Internet really has made all of the difference when it comes to locating a storage company to house your belongings.  It has never been easier to shop, search and compare prices than it is now that we have the Internet in our homes.

I have been designated as a furniture mover  for my little brothers upcoming relocation. This concerns me somewhat. You see, when I moved to a new house six months ago, I basically left Helotes Texas and took a few things, pretty much starting over. I did not have any big, bulky couches, or even a washer and dryer. The heaviest thing that I brought with me to Columbia was perhaps a futon, which I was able to move by myself.

This weekend, however, it will be more of a concerted effort to move my brothers big, heavy items such as his humongous leather couches, his and dryer and even a refrigerator. At least he will be renting a moving truck that has a ramp, and a hand truck that will assist us in getting the job done with less back ache involved, hopefully.

I am excited about my brothers move.  He has basically followed me Helotes Texas to Columbia, and he will be living just a few minutes away from where I live now. That is a good thing, because when I go to New Mexico in October, I plan on getting paid back to help him move by having him take care of my cats while I'm gone.  He does not know that yet, but he soon will.

My little brother is moving next weekend. So it looks like my Labor Day weekend will consist of helping him  move as well as working at my casino job. To make the transition easier, I suggested that he go ahead and start filling boxes up and taking them over to the new place after he gets off of work.

He said that he would, so I am holding him to it...He does get kinda lazy now and then, especially when there is a chore that he is not looking forward to doing.  This reminds me of the way that I feel when it comes to mowing the lawn. But, in my defense, I did spend two and a half hours doing yard work today. Time will tell how much effort my brother has taken to ensure that my busy weekend is not completely taken up by his relocation deadline.

I had the best luck today on Craigs List...I was browsing around and happened upon a post from a girl who had just completed her move and had unpacked her things and begun to settle in. Rather than throwing them out or recycling them, she was trying to give away all of her used moving boxes and supplies. For free!  Ah, it amazes me to no end how the Universe is always helping out.

When it comes to choosing a storage service, there are so many different options that are available that it boggles the mind. The sizes of the units vary from a small closet sized space to a cavernous space that is as big as a three car garage. The size of the space that you choose is dependent upon the amount of items that you intend to house there. If you have a two bedroom house that needs to go in, then it would probably be in your best interests to check out a 10x15 foot space. However, if you would want to store an automobile along with that, then you would best be served to bump up to the next larger size, which would be a 10x20 foot space.  No matter the amount of items that you have, there is a space that is perfectly suited to housing it. With a little research and a few well placed questions to your local facilities manager, you are sure to fine the space that you need at an affordable price. Be sure to obtain renters insurance on your property, just in case. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your personal belongings. After all, these items are more than just things, they are memories.

I was in Seattle a couple of months ago, and I probably saw the sun less than a dozen times the entire seven days that I was visiting. It was nearly always overcast outside. The rain is different there than it is here. It has been dripping and puring now for a good fifteen hours or more, and it shows no signs of letting up. In Seattle, however, the rain is misty and soft. No one uses umbrellas, because the rain is so light, you barely even notice it. And watching the storms roll in across the Puget Sound is a beautifully uplifting and even spiritual experience. I would probably relocate to the upper West Coast if I ever had the opportunity. I know for a fact that I will visit Seattle again before too long, because I enjoyed the atmosphere of the city so immensely. Who knows, before too long I may be calling up and pricing out nationwide moving companies in search of the best deal to help me get my things up to the Pacific Northwest. With all that the region has to offer in the way of environmentally friendly and artistically inclined living, I feel like me and my girls would fit right in.

When I think of portable storage, I think of metal sheds that you can build and then tear down and rebuild in another location. I like the idea of my belongings remaining on property with me, even though it is not in the immediate house. I have read about companies that offer such a service. They literally come to your property, and they leave a huge metal box there, for months or years if you want them to. In this way, you have access to your things, the most convenient access that you can have, which is right in your back yard. I have to wonder about zoning laws and regulations that prohibit such things from being located in your yard or on the side of your house. No doubt such restrictions do exist. I would think that the company would be wise to the restrictions and let the customers know ahead of time if the laws prohibited such use on their property. Any reputable company would be privy to that information and would not withhold such things from a potential client just to earn some cash.  I have not seen any local companies that offer this service, so my guess is that such a thing is not allowed here in this area. That is unfortunate. In my opinion, if it is my backyard, and I want to put a big metal box in it, I should be able to do so.

I have several storage containers full of used veggie oil in my garage. Why? Well, because I know someone that has a bus that runs on veggie oil. The oil is used, and it is acquired from local restaurants. There was an abundance of the oil stashed in a shed on another property, which needed to be moved somewhere when the lease to the property was up. Like everything else, it came here, and is now living in my garage. The person who owns the bus is long gone, to New Mexico, and now I have all of this oil that I need to find something to do with. I know someone who knows someone that will buy the oil from me for about three dollars per gallon, which would actually net me about a hundred and twenty bucks or so. I can handle that. The problem is getting in touch with the guy that knows the person who will buy the oil. these things are always made more complicated than they need to be. For now, though, the oil can remain where it is. As long as it doesn't spill, we are in good shape. I would not enjoy cleaning up a mess of vegetable oil. I can imagine the slipping and sliding that would entail...

Storage services are becoming an increasingly popular form or decluttering the average American home. How many boxes of Christmas decorations, old linens, board games that have never been played and electronic equipment does the typical family have tucked away in nooks and crannies of their attics, garages and basements?  Suffice it to say, that we all accumulate things on a regular basis, things that we may not really need, but we take them anyway just in case we may use them pone day. Garage sale shoppers, now they load up. They probably could stand renting a unit just for their thrifty finds. Many times, an opportunity comes that you simply can't pass up. A free couch, an new desk chair, or a vintage dining table or sewing machine shows up, and you just know that you will be able to squeeze it in somewhere. Once you get it home, though, the squeezing is more difficult than you first imagines.  So you have a choice, watch as your house shrinks, or move some of that stuff out to a nearby space where you can access it at any time.  I would rather be able to pick and choose what surrounds me, and keep a spacious open feeling to my home, rotating the contents like food in my pantry, than be squished and stressed in a house that was filled to capacity.

It's a lovely, gloomy and wet afternoon. My yard is like mush, my driveway like a river, and my basement is holding an inch and a half in water in some areas.  Fortunately for me, the part that is retaining water is well away from all of the storage boxes that I have stashed down there.
I had a funny experience this morning. I was in the basement attempting to swoosh all of the water down the drain, and when I was going back upstairs, I looked up at the sliding glass door and burst out laughing. My newly adopted cat, Moo-moo,
(no, I am not responsible for that name...)
was hanging onto the screen door, a foot and a half up in the air. His paws were slayed out like he was stuck to a cliff. And he had the most pathetic, wet look on his face.  He is a very silly feline. that just made my day to see something so funny. If I had had a camera handy, I would have taken a picture and posted it on that blog 'I can has cheezeburger?'  It definitely would have made it with some funny slogan. I can imagine the caption as being something along the lines of ' I iz a door. I not let you thru...' or some such nonsense.

Alright now, this is it, truly and irrefutably the last blog entry that I am going to write tonight. I can go no further. I feel like taking this computer and all of its accessories, shoving them into moving boxes, and shipping them to a place far, far away.  After this, it is quite possible that you will never hear from me again. Okay, so that is not true, but AARRGH! I can't feel my arm!

Regardless of the outcome of this friendly little competition that we have entered into together, I will be satisfied, knowing that I did what I could do to put big smiles onto the faces of my girls, and then I can get back to the business of my life again. So, come what may, once this blog entry is done, I an going to bed. Poo...I think the sun is starting to rise....I guess that means that I will be sleeping with a pillow covering my eyes. But oh, what a restful and lovely sleep it will be. It has been a long day, and while all of you are getting ready to begin yours, I am still coming down from my worknight and my obsessive blogging, and so, to all of my fellow bloggers and cyber friends, may you have a pleasant and joy filled day.

Yesterday I took my teen out to a Thai restaurant nearby. We love the buffet. Plenty of vegetarian options and lots of different flavors and textures make the food simply irresistible. I was full for hours. On the way home, I saw yet another storage company that I had not previously known was there.  This one was tucked away neatly, and I've probably driven past it a hundred times or more without ever realizing that it was there.

It's interesting to stumble across these things, as they catch my eye at the strangest times. And each and every time I pass by one, my mental monkey chatter starts screeching "look! another one! do you believe that?"  They really are everywhere. It's a good thing, too, because so many people use them. I know that if my house was overflowing with stuff that I didn't want to look at anymore, I'd be one of their best clients. Right now, I have plenty of space, and unusual amount of space, in which to keep my things, so I don't worry about it. But every time I go onto Craigslist, I find something else that might look good in my house, like the moon chair that I found the other day, and whatever else that I will find tomorrow. I need to wean myself off of that site.

My backpack is my own little portable storage place. I bought it in Frankfort Kentucky.  I used to live in Frankfort Kentucky and sometimes I miss it there.  It holds all of my things in perfect order and safety. My newly acquired laptop fits snugly inside, as so the cord that charges it and the mouse that I use with it. With my backpack, I don't need to carry a purse, because it has so many pockets and pouches that it holds just about anything that I can imagine.

It is funny just how much stuff some of us need to carry around in order to feel comfortable. I don't carry too much extraneous stuff, but I do have my necessities, as do all of us. I think it lends to a sense of security, knowing that should anything important come up, we will be prepared. Whether it is carrying an extra pair of contact lenses, or a daily planner, I find that when I have my backpack, I feel more in control somehow. It's weird, but effective. I rarely have to say 'oops, I forgot such and such' because it's all in there!

I've seen girls walking around with purses that you could fit a small man into, and I have to say that if I had something like that, I'd never be able to find a single thing that I was searching for. I need pockets, and little nooks and pen holders.

Working for a moving company has got to be strenuous work, My back hurts just thinking about it. Wait, scratch that, I 'm pretty sure that my back hurts because I have been hunched over this keyboard for hours.  Yeah, that's probably it.  Anyway, I can imagine that, even with hand trucks and other nifty accessories to help make the job easier, that line of work would still be somewhat of a stretch for most people.  I used to live in Jefferson City Missouri, I moved and it was hard.  I moved everything from Jefferson City Missouri, to Columbia and I was beat!

Think about it. We may move once every three or four years, and when we do, it is a real chore. Imagine doing that every day, for a living!  Eek.  I give props to the men and women who make it their business to help people during that transition in their lives. I know it is appreciated.  I couldn't have afforded it, personally, six months ago when I moved into this house. What a luxury it would have been for some big strong guys to come and lift all of my boxes and furniture!  I don't plan on moving again just yet. Maybe by the time I am ready to relocate, I will be able to splurge and hire some help. Boy, I sure hope so.

My cats and my kids are all fast asleep, as I soon will be. Pardon me for my delirious ramblings, but right about now, my fingers are numb from typing, my eyes are droopy from lack of sleep and I need some water.  Yet, I persist on this insane quest... I don't usually enter contests, but for some reason, that reason being my daughters, I have taken on the challenge. Now I feel like I am running a marathon, except for the fact that I barely have enough energy to type these words, much less run right now.

I was writing an article the other day about mini self storage, and it was referring to steel as being the most environmentally friendly way to build said units.  I suppose so, but I often wonder why everyone has to put an eco friendly spin on everything? I mean, I guess steel can be melted down and turned into something else, as opposed to concrete just being broken up and dumped onto a huge pile of rock somewhere. I would hope, however, that someone who was interested in starting a business of that kind would find a piece of land that, at the very least, had already been commercialized and built upon, rather than cutting down trees to build it.

Driving down 40 in the middle of the night, I have noticed hundreds of little frogs. I don't know what they are thinking, but as soon as they see my car headlights approaching, they make a bee line right into the road in front of my vehicle. Thankfully there are no other cars driving that road late at night. I must look like I'm drunk, the way I'm swerving all over the road to try and avoid the frogs. I may just have to start taking I70 home at night if it keeps up.  On the way to Kansas City I have seen lots of them.

The last time I went from Stl to Kansas City we had a really big storm, I ended up having to forget about the frogs all together and just hope they got out of my way. I couldn't even see the road, much less the little frogs. That was actually quite a scary ride, fog, pummeling rain, some serious lightning streaks that were so close that I was afraid one of the trees on the side of the road was going to be struck, and then, on top of it all, there was hail! Those poor frogs never had a chance.

I'm always very conscious of critters on my way home, and I really try hard not to hit those poor frogs. Why wont they stay on the side of the road for cryin out loud! Anyway, I'm turning in. I have no doubt that dreams of storage units and frogs will come to me in my sleep.

Man, it's almost 4:30 in the morning. I've really got to go to bed before dawn, otherwise it is more difficult for me to fall asleep. The thing is, writing wakes me up. I know what is going to happen. I'm going to go in there and lay down and have sixty thousand thought racing through my head for an hour or more. I wish I could just trade in my sleep time and get things done. I can be so much more productive, except for that silly sleep thing.

Nevertheless, I do have places to go tomorrow, and I have to work yet again dealing craps tomorrow night, so, going without sleep, even at this late stage (or early stage, depending upon how you look at it) is not an option.  Over the last few months, I have pulled quite a few all nighters, hunched over my computer keyboard, feverishly hammering out blog assignments on local self-storage, or writing these blogs. I'm beginning the process of writing for me again, though, and that feels comfortable. I'm journaling, even writing poetry, and soon, I think I will try my hand at writing a story or two.

Every day I receive these flashes of insight. Thoughts that will shake me up and make me say to myself " Yes! That is what you have been waiting for! Do it now before you forget!"  Just today I experienced a moment of serenity that led to such an epiphany. I stumbled across something online, and all of a sudden, the words 'write stories for your spiritual growth' was in front of me. I thought that was interesting. I went outside for a few moments of solitude and reflection, as I am wont to do, and I realized that one of the reasons that I hesitiate to write stories is because of the fear that I will not be good enough.

Competition for writiers is fierce, I tell you! So many people are so much more experienced, well versed and intuitively creative, that I could not possibly compare to their level of brilliance. So today, I realized a most important fact. I don't have to compare to those people whom I respect and admire so much for the inspiration that they have bestowed upon me. They are in a different place, they lead different lives, and so they come from a completely personal perception of the world around them, as do I.

Like lightning, I was struck by the surety that writing from my perspective, me, and not just to please an audience, is vastly more important in finding my truth and my voice? How will I ever discover the workings of my soul if I am constantly trying to impress an audience of people whom I have never met? I realized that my audience consists of people who are a lot like me.  Right now I write about things like climate controlled storage and it is rapidly turning into something much more beautiful, leading me to a deeper awareness of who I am and what I have to say.

Ruby spent the entire weekend with her Dad.  I miss her so much when she is not here with me. She finally came home Monday afternoon, in time for me to hang with her for a few hours before I had to leave again to go to work at the casino. She was crying when I left, as she often does when I haven't seen her for a few days and then have to go to work.  It is a terrible feeling to want so badly to stay home with her, while she is clinging to me with tears running down her face. She knows that I must go, as do I, but it hurts us both.

As I drove down the street, she literally ran after me, chasing my car. I stopped and gave her a few more kisses before I finally drove away.
Being a mother is hard. I relish every moment of it, but it is more emotionally and financially challenging than any thing else that I have ever done. I try not to let my fears run rampant, obsessing about all of the things that could go wrong. I have faith and trust that the Universe operates in a way that will ultimately serve the highest good of all involved, but that doesn't make it any easier to drive away.  At least when I am home, writing about moving & storage, I can be with her, hug her and talk to her.

Tomorrow (or today to you folks who are asleep right now) I get to babysit two of the most wonderful kids that I know. They play well with my daughter and I, and we always have fun. Sometimes we paint, sometimes we make gooey flubber, and the other day we built a 'structure' out of twigs and electrical tape. And while it is nice to have the extra money, the kids are such a joy to be with that the time goes by fast, and before I know it, it is time for Ruby and I to go.

It makes a difference when you enjoy the work that you do, doesn't it?

My schedule has changed at the casino. Beginning next week, I will only be working three nights per week as opposed to four. It may not sound like much of a difference, but oh, it will be. My nights off will be Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I am so looking forward to the change. The less often that I work, the more I seem to enjoy the job, the more time I have to spend with my daughters, and of course, the more time that I have to put into writing lovely articles about self storage.

Hey! Guess what! I bought a laptop today!  I'm so excited about it that I have been telling everyone. Granted, it isn't a brand new laptop, but for my purposes, it will work like a dream. I found it on Craigslist (of course). I've been looking for a while, but have been hesitant to buy from an individual out of fear that the computer would die or be faulty, and then where would I be? But lo and behold, I found myself a self professed computer nerd, who absolutely loved this computer for a year. Now, for him, it is time for an upgrade, and he has to let it go.

The beautiful thing is that he completely reformatted the thing for me, reinstalled all of the programs and really hooked me up!  Not only that, but he has generously agreed to be my go to guy if and when I ever have any problems with any of my computers.  So now, I have a computer guy. I did tell him that I will refer business to him as well, so, if anyone needs their computers worked on, I have your solution.

Now that I have this laptop, I won't be having to kick my kids off of the computer all the time in order to write my articles about personal storage. Plus, I can go anywhere in my house, including my lavender meditation and massage room.  Woo Hoo!  All of this for a mere $375. And I couldn't have done it without this company. Thank you, yet again!  I have a background on it of Key West FloridaKey West Florida is just so beautiful, I want to see it everytime my computer starts up!

My driveway has become a sort of car storage of late. There is a vehicle that has been sitting in it for over a month now, awaiting the return of its owner. It is pulled up just a little closer to my garage than perhaps I would have liked, but there it sits, kind of in the way.
Luckily, I have a large driveway, and it has not prohibited me from parking there. The owner of the vehicle is supposed to be coming back soon to retrieve it. Actually, he was supposed to be back in town today (or yesterday to you folks who actually sleep at night) but I never heard a word from him. Perhaps he will come strolling in tomorrow, but the thing is, he will be bringing yet another vehicle, which will undoubtedly be sitting in my driveway for another month or so.

It's a good thing that I really have a fondness and great appreciation for the individual to whom the vehicles belong, otherwise I might have something to say about the fact that the cars are left here for so long. I guess, on the bright side, it makes my house seem like there is always someone here. I'm always the optimist, aren't I?

I stepped outside for a few minutes to enjoy the storm. The lightning sparks the sky, consuming it, bringing a split second of daylight to the neighborhood, the rain is pummeling everything it touches and the thunder is a fierce rumble, even from where I sit now at my computer. I love storms. They relax me, make me feel at ease. I know many people don't enjoy the rain, but I would much prefer the crisp, clean, cool air that rain brings in to the humid, sweltering heat that we have been receiving here in Missouri lately.

The sound of a heavy thunderstorm such as this one can lull me to sleep faster than any kind of meditation cd of classical music can. What is it about that sound? It is the music of the Earth; Mother Natures symphony clinking and trickling in our ears. We are here on this planet to enjoy and appreciate its many wonders.
This rain storm right now is one of them. It entices me to stop what I am doing and just be with it, letting the sights, sounds and smells overtake my senses, bringing me closer to my center; closer to the divine. It is no wonder that ancient peoples worshipped the rain. In a sense, I do. unfortunatley, I cannot go to sleep right now, because I have few more blogs about selfstorage to attend to.
