StorageMart is headquartered from Columbia, Missouri. The company recently moved their corporate offices from the site of their first storage facility to office suites across town, located in The District of Columbia, Missouri.

The corporate offices employ roughly 25 employees, in addition to a call center and sales consultant business, which employs approximately an additional 60 employees.

Where Did We Come From?

StorageMart began much like the self storage industry - from an idea, hard work, and in this case, a rainy family vacation.

The StorageMart legacy can be traced back to one summer vacation. Mom and Dad wanted to take their 3 children to a sunny spot in Texas, where the family could build lasting memories before all the kids went away to college. They had no idea just how memorable this trip would be.

While their sunny Texas spot turned out to be all glum and rain, fortune was shining down upon them. The family was determined to make something of their trip, and what else would you do with a car full of teenagers on a rainy vacation besides drive around and look for new business opportunities? And that is precisely what they did.

After piling into the car, the entire family found themselves circling the same block around a building with rows of doors. Intrigued, they stopped in to ask the property owner a little bit more about the self storage industry.

After finding out more about the opportunity and potential this real estate rental notion held, Dad made a deal with the Texas storage owner and bought the leasing rights to the storage facility for just 10 dollars.

Using the momentum of finding such a wonderful business idea, the family returned home to Missouri and immediately sought out financing their first self storage property. They purchased a great location right off the highway in their hometown.

Since that first voyage into the storage industry, the family has bought and sold their original storage property 3 times. StorageMart proudly owns and operates the original Columbia storage site today.

More History

Prior to forming StorageMart, the founders were the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of an REIT, where they oversaw the development and management of over 600 million dollars of self storage properties.

The REIT became a publicly traded company in late 1994 with over 4 million square feet of storage properties. In 1999 the company's portfolio was acquired by a large storage company.

The founders of StorageMart are pioneers to the self storage industry, having been involved in the storage industry since 1974.

Where Are We Going?

StorageMart is focused on developing, acquiring and managing state-of-the-art storage facilities in first tier urban US and Canadian markets. StorageMart will seek investment opportunities to achieve market penetration, benefit from economies of scale, limited competition and produce exceptional operating margins.
