Following the subject of my last post, it may also prove beneficial for storage facilities to market their moving supplies on college campuses. Boxes and packing supplies are not only needed for moving, they are needed for keeping dorm rooms organized and clean.

Self shelving should find a happy home on most college campuses. Students, after all, tend to be a dirty bunch a cluttered bunch, looking for ways to keep tiny living spaces open. Self shelving might allow for college students to get a little bit of extra space in an otherwise claustrophobic dorm room.

Likewise, boxes can help a great deal in terms of keeping a dorm room clean. If students choose to bunk their beds, for example, boxes could allow for them to keep their CDs and DVDs organized AND out of sight. Freeing up more space in a dorm room will inevitably free up more space in fresh, young college minds. A clean room, I always say, is an efficient room.

Hear me, storage facilities, and take to college campuses in the future. You may be surprised by how well your moving and packing supplies are received. Though they may appear to be a dirty bunch, many college students want to stay clean and organized like the rest of us.

I am beginning to think that I could

I am beginning to think that I could increase my storage rentals by doing a bit of on campus advertising.

Every winter and summer, students graduate and have to move on in life. Much of the time, this process of moving on involves moving in the literal sense that is, finding a new home. If you do not believe me, simply take a look around you towards the end of this semester. The roads will be clogged with moving truck after moving truck. Furniture, much of it rather nice, usable, at least, will litter the front lawns of our campus homes. The poster sale squad will pack up its bags and head to a different town.

If I were to advertise for our storage facilities around campus, I am sure that I could peak a few students interest. Storage is often a necessary component to moving, and students, as we have establish, are going to be moving around rather soon. This sort of advertising could prove to be incredibly beneficial. Being a student myself, I doubt that I would have much trouble building rapport with those who I encounter. Trust would be established from the get go, and storage rentals would follow all the more easily.

More Car Trouble

As most of you know, I drive a classic car. Though I very much enjoy how the car looks and, I suppose, how it feels when I am driving it, it has given me quite a bit of trouble over the years. Just the other day, I was heading down the road when the person in front of me decided that she would stop a bit suddenly. I did not think much of it at first, but when I pushed on the breaks it almost felt like my car was sliding across a sheet of ice. Needless to say, this scared the daylights out of me. It turns out that the brakes pads are gripping unevenly very, very unevenly. I guess that I should probably take the car in to make sure that nothing bad happens. Come to think of it, it might be a better idea to put my car in auto storage while it is still in running condition. I might save money on repairs.

Yet Another Crazy Idea

My roommate and I were thinking about renting a standard storage unit for band practice. Now, I think that it might be a better idea to rent portable storage for our band.

Think about it. Moving instruments to and from concerts can be real pain. So much lifting, so much setting up to do. Who needs all of that when you can simply roll the band into the venue.

Sure, it might get a little bit tight playing music inside of a portable storage unit sure, it might be deafeningly loud to do so but, my faithful readers, think of the convenience.

When the concert is over, we could just call the moving company and head on over to the next show. We would be just like mice in a mouse ball, lethargic little mice with instruments.

This may not be the most practical idea, but I think that it has potential.

Seeing things in person

I have to say that I am pretty familiar with interstate self storage. After all, I saw quite a bit of it when I took my vacation to the west coast.

It was incredibly odd to drive by so many of the facilities that we answer for. I have to admit, I feel a bit more defensive when I am bragging about the security features these facilities offer, now. Before, these facilities were unfamiliar remote. Now, I have seen them in person. I feel as though I know them much, much better.

Likewise, I feel great knowing that all of my hard work all of my efforts to convince callers that they would receive great security at these facilities was grounded in reality. The significance of good security is much more clear when you get the chance to see a facility in person. I suppose that is why we push site tours as much as we do.

Box Variety

Many people think that moving boxes are just moving boxes that there is nothing special about them. While there does not have to be anything complicated about moving boxes, it is important to remember that there are many different kinds of moving boxes.

I made the mistake of throwing all of my clothes into random boxes when I moved. Sure, it saved some time sure, it catered to my laziness but when I got to my new apartment, I was left with box after box of crumpled, ugly, and somewhat smelly clothing.

If I had taken the time to pick up some actual wardrobe boxes, I am sure that I would have had a much better experience moving my clothing. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had stored all of my clothing long term long term and in the wrong boxes. All the steam in the world could not have helped my poor old clothes.

Take the Extra Step

Take it from a complete computer nerd, climate controlled storage is absolutely essential for sensitive electronic equipment. Though it may seem tempting to save a few dollars per month at first, you do not want to risk damaging or breaking your electronics.

When I decided that I was going to use a storage unit, I made sure to separate my temperature sensitive belongings from everything else. I placed my larger items mostly furniture in a standard storage unit, and I stored most of my video game consoles, computers, televisions, and computer peripherals in my temporary apartment.

As I often say, do not let a complicated moving situation compromise your priorities. Do not sacrifice the safety or integrity of your belongings for a few extra dollars per month. Making it through a crunch can be hard, but ultimately you will be happy that you did everything within your power to stay safe.

Unexpected Success

I have heard many stories about successful days at self storage auctions. Allow me to explain.

Some facilities will auction the contents of a unit when the tenant fails to pay his/her bill for a certain amount of time and amount of time which varies from storage facility to storage facility. When storage facilities conduct these auctions, bids are typically blind. The bidders get fifteen to thirty seconds to see the contents of the unit, and then the door is closed. People bid blindly on the unit hoping to find something great.

I actually heard a story about someone who bid 150 for a storage unit that was full of boxes, floor to ceiling. The man won the auction. The went into the unit, moved the boxes around, and Wow. He found a snowmobile. Turns out that it was buried underneath all of the boxes. Talk about finding a great bargain.

Hearing stories like these makes me want to attend a few storage auctions myself. I have a few friends who are very into selling things on eBay, so I bet that I could make a pretty decent profit if I acquire a few items at a storage auction. Though you do get stuck with a bunch of junk, you do seem to end up on top a lot of the time,

One Regret

I just came out from Basalt Colorado and things have changed. In Basalt Colorado a lot of things are different. If there is one thing I regret about moving into my new apartment, it is that our landlord has a strict NO PETS policy.

When my pet rat passed away, I decided that I would love to get a dog. Until I came to college, I did not live even a year of my life without a family dog. I suppose that I did not realize just how much I enjoyed having a dog around until I came down to college.

I realize that dogs can be quite a pain to raise. Puppies have a tendency to turn every room into a bathroom a tendency to chew on absolutely everything they can find a tendency to yelp and bark their way through the night when you put them in their cage. Somehow, though, I do not care about these minor inconveniences. Dogs are just too much fun to have around.

Now that all of my moving boxes are unpacked and out of the way, the dog would actually have some space to run around and play. And now that we have a fairly nice back yard, we would actually have a place to let the dog play around during the day.

Perhaps I should have a word with our new landlord.

Labor Day

As Labor day approaches, I realize that I do not have anything particularly special planned. Perhaps I should change that. A few years ago I went to Big Coppitt Key Florida. If you have never been to Big Coppitt Key Florida I suggest you check it out, it is pretty neat.

I know that we are having a barbecue here at our call center, but what am I supposed to do before and after it. I mean, when you get a day off of school, you have to make use of it, right. That is certainly the kid in me talking. I am glad that said kid still finds me habitable.

For whatever reason, I am disinclined to do normal things on holiday weekends. I mean, I can sit down and read a book or play a video game virtually whenever I want to. It is too normal too regular.

Perhaps I should head back into St. Louis to visit my parents visit a few of my friends. Perhaps I should have my parents and friends come down to Columbia to see my new apartment. Perhaps we could set off a few of the fireworks we have leftover from the 4th of July. Perhaps my friend and I could finally rent our storage unit and start practicing some music. Perhaps we could go out and see some music.

I just do not know. All I know is that I would like to something ever so slightly out of the ordinary. That's what holidays are for, right.
