Storage boxes come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  They can usually be purchased either a la carte, in bundles of the same sized boxes, or in packages suitable for different needs.

Small boxes are great for packing books, photo albums, LPs, etc.  You want to put heavy items into a small box and mark it accordingly so your helpers or your movers don’t wretch their backs when they pick it up.

Medium boxes are for small, awkward items that need to be wrapped in packing material.  This includes dishes, glassware, and breakable knickknacks such as Hummel’s and chotskis.

Large boxes work for bigger items that are bulky but don’t weigh too much.  Things like towels, bed linens, and tablecloths go well in the large-sized cartons.

Purchasing storage boxes in packs can be very convenient for someone packing up their home.  An example is an apartment pack, which contains about a dozen small and medium boxes, a couple of big boxes, a box designed for packing dishes, some protective wrap and packing tape, a utility knife and a marker.  There are different sized packs available such as a small one for a couple of rooms of furniture all the way up to a house pack that that box up a three bedroom home.

Most people do not enjoy moving.  A friend of mine just moved from Concord California.  Moving from Concord California takes days and days!    Even if it is a local move It is usually a lot of work, plus any kind of a change in a person’s life can be very stressful.  But moving can be made a little easier if you have the right supplies.  Everyone always thinks about needing boxes and packing tape when they are getting ready to relocate, but there are a lot of other supplies that can come in handy.

There are several tools that go hand in hand with using storage boxes and packing tape.  Labels and a marker should always be nearby so you can tag each carton.  Make a note on the box to let your movers know if it is very heavy or has fragile items in it or if it needs to go to the kitchen.  A utility knife works great to both cut the tape off of the dispenser when closing a box and for slicing through the tape when opening the box.

Bubble wrap, packing paper, and foam wrap are essential for wrapping things like holiday decorations, glasses, and computer equipment.  Packing peanuts are great for filling the empty spaces inside of the boxes.  Mattress, chair, and sofa covers protect furniture from getting ripped or dirty or ruined during transit.

Just like with anything else, having the right tools makes the job of moving a lot less complicated.

People need a place to store their automobiles for many different reasons.  This is why many self storage facilities have both 10x20 drive up access units and/or outside parking spaces available for rent on a monthly basis.

There are a huge number of people that use their garage for things other than parking their car.  Sometimes they turn that area into an extra room of their house.  The garage becomes an extra bedroom or an addition to the kitchen or the new family room.  This gives the house more living space, but there goes the car storage !  This means that families with three and four cars just do not have enough room left to park them all.  So the perfect solution is to park the lemon of the group at the nearby self storage facility.

Other people own fun little sports cars.  These vehicles are fun to motor around town during the warm summer months, but can be treacherous on the sleet and snow of the winter months.  And convertibles can be a bit too chilly when Old Man Winter is blowing.  So using car storage from about November until March is a great option for these owners.

There are about as many different reasons for a person needing car storage as there are people.  This is why many self storage facilities offer these spaces for their customers.

Many non-profit organizations have a yearly rummage sale. This can be a great money maker for scouting troops, 4-H groups, church choirs, etc.  These organizations use their profits from these fundraisers for everything from buying uniforms for needy kids to summer camp fees to national conference trips.

These annual happenings are really good for another reason.  They allow all of the group members, their families, and friends to collect items throughout the year that still have some life in them, but are no longer needed or wanted by the current owner.  As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.  Recycle, Reuse, and Reclaim.

The problem though with this annual fundraiser is what to do with all of the donations that accumulate throughout the year.  Is their a parent or a home owner that is willing to store all of these would-be treasures?  Not usually!  This is where a self storage unit really comes in handy.  Donors are able to bring their unwanted items directly to the storage facility as they clean out their attacks and their basements and their garages.

Renting a unit at a storage facility for a minimal cost can be the perfect solution for any group that needs to stow away some things throughout the year until their annual garage sale.

I talk to customers all over the country about their self storage needs.  Earlier today I was helping a guy in Oakland California when all of a sudden he asked me if I could hold on for a minute.  I am used to this, since people are often calling me from their workplace and they are multi-tasking.  Then all of a sudden he nonchalantly informed me that they were having an Earthquake!  I am from the Midwest, where we are accustomed to tornados.  I was freaking out more about his trembling earth than he was!  But I was able to assist him with all of his storage needs, even if his ground was shaking!  I am glad I am not in Oakland California I would be freaked out!

The Fourth of July is a day of celebration for Americans.  And this year, 2008, marks the United States 232nd birthday; a pretty good milestone for a country founded by a bunch of people that really had no clue what they were doing!

Independence Day is one of the few federal holidays that are actually observed on the actual date, instead of always on a Monday.  Somehow, celebrating the 4th of July on July 2 just wouldn’t be quite right!  So get your fireworks out of storage and lets celebrate!!

The “7 Triggers to Yes” is a summary that brings up some very interesting points when it comes to the successful selling  of selfstorage.  It compares the old “tried and true” methods of using logic and reason, versus today’s updated scientific methods using emotional cues.

The summary explains that instead of using logical things such as numbers and charts to persuade someone, a good sales person will use the brain’s internal triggers.  Physical and Psychological studies have shown that these triggers are truly what helps a customer really make their decisions.

According to the summery, the seven triggers to yes include:

The Friendship Trigger, which provides a bonding between the sales rep and the customer.

The Authority Trigger, which gives the customer the idea that the sales rep knows what she is talking about and is an expert in the area.

The Consistency Trigger, which brings back positive memories for customers from past experiences.

The Reciprocity Trigger, which reinforces the feeling that customers get something in return when they give something first.

The Reasons Why Trigger, which allows the sales rep to state a case that will automatically make the customer respond “Yes”.

The Hope Trigger, which gives the customer the warm and fuzzy feeling of positive expectations.

The summary is very informative, and gives sales people a new approach to their profession of selling self storage!
